Good Reasons to Change to Bamboo Nappies

Bamboo nappies, also known as diapers, are starting to grow in popularity because more people are starting to become aware of the unique properties of these bamboo diapers. These eco-nappies are starting to be huge hits with people trying to reduce their own carbon footprints. If washable nappies are used well, they can potentially reduce your energy usage–an idea that has gained huge popularity throughout the years. Cotton nappies, however, have some disadvantages because they can cause rashes on the baby’s bottom. This is just one of the risks you should be aware of.

Bamboo fibre is known for their softness and absorbency, which makes them great material to use as a diaper. Compared to the cotton crop, bamboo is a lot less resource intensive and is considered to be more than “green” because it is renewable. Bamboo grows rapidly, which means that even if there is high demand for it, use of bamboo will not drive the plant into extinction. It is also relatively free from most pests which means that manufacturers did not have to use pesticides and other harmful items in making the diapers for use. This is what makes them an extremely useful and sage option in comparison to cotton which can be heavily sprayed by pesticides and insecticides.

Bamboo was recently discovered to hold antibacterial qualities when converted into a fabric form. Consequently, it has the ability to be used over and over again fifty times. The qualities within bamboo also eliminates and fight against harsh odors and can get rid of up to 70 percent of the bacteria that grow from reuse. Most bamboo nappies are made with an absorbent hidden in the inside, and soft bamboo terry used on the outside.

Compared to cotton nappies, bamboo nappies are up to 60% more absorbent and are able to absorb up to 3 times its own weight in liquid. Similarly to any other natural made fabric on our shelves today, bamboo nappies get their absorbency from the holes and gaps in the fiber–something that cannot be seen through the naked eye. At the same time, bamboo is a lot more durable than cotton and can last a lot longer. Even though cotton is noted for its ability to let you breathe, bamboo has been shown to let air flow through it more efficiently than cotton. It also has a silky texture, making it feel like the softest material known to mankind. Best of all, bamboo maintains this silk-like feel through repeated washes. You can even find it used in organic baby blankets.

Sometimes bamboo is mixed with cotton to maintain the fabric’s structure. The ratio of cotton to bamboo is often kept at twenty to eighty respectively. This ratio is used to prolong the life of the fabric and make sure that it will not lose its shape after a few washes. You may also want to check out baby safety monitors.
