How to Choose a Baby Gate
Every parent knows, when a baby begins to crawl there are dangers lurking everywhere that were never noticed before and we begin thinking of ways to protect them; one such method of safety are baby gates. There are many types and heights and manufacturers of these gates but all have the same basic purpose and effect: protection of babies and toddlers.
When deciding what type of gate to purchase for a room or space in the home it’s very important to first and foremost, think like a baby. Get on the floor and crawl around and find out what specific areas of the home need to be childproofed. By doing this the parent can find problem areas that might not have been noticed otherwise. This is the most effective method of determining where to place childproof safety measures including safety gates.
After doing this the parents can determine what areas need limited access. Some potential problems can be eliminated simply by doing this. For example: stairs, bathrooms, or areas with electronics can be blocked off with fences eliminating possible threats to baby. While nothing is foolproof and parents should err on the side of caution when installing gates it is important to choose the right kind of gate for a particular area. Stairs and bathrooms would ideally utilize gate that can be removed (adjustable heights and widths) for ease of access. While a more stationary gate would be more plausible for area such as bedrooms or media rooms.
Baby gates are an important step in childproofing one’s home and protecting those little ones who do not process dangers as older children and adults do. Remember to always err on the side of caution in your choices and installation of gates and other safety measures but the most important thing to remember when childproofing any home is to think like a baby.
